PRESBYTERY PRATTLE

Highlights from the Yellowhead Presbytery Meeting held in Fort Saskatchewan February 10 & 11, 2000.

Christian Development:

•Youth Leadership Workshops lead by our Youth Worker Joanna Pickerl to be held on March 3 & 4 for the west side of the Presbytery, and March 10 & 11 for the east side. We still need host churches in each area. If you are interested in hosting or having your youth leaders attend, please contact Joanna at 432-2053 or e-mail at cst0320 at cst.nait.ab.ca

•Vacation Bible School Caravan - host congregations get your application forms in A.S.A.P. Also look within your congregation for persons who might be interested in the co-ordinator or teen volunteer positions. Application forms have already been sent to each pastoral charge.

•Welcoming & Nurturing Newcomer Workshops:

    •April 1 - Fort Saskatchewan
    •April 7,8 - Stony Plain
    •May 12, 13 - Whitecourt

•Next deadline for Education for Church Leadership (formerly Life Long Learning) is April 15. The mileage rate for the year 2000 is $0.21 /km so check your form to see that the new rate is indicated. Application forms for Junior and Senior High Youth at Conference Programs are available from the Presbytery secretary. Send to Mervin Gallant, 22 Main Street, Ardrossan, AB,T8E 2A2 or fax at (780)922-2264 by March 1, 2000.

•Camping season is coming up soon. Please see Leslie Penny for applications forms, today.

World Outreach

•What is your congregation doing to celebrate the Jubilee? Contact Rev. Neville Smith in Barrhead and let him know. He would like to compile a list of activities.

•Year 2000 theme for Ten Days for Global Justice, "Close the Gap Between the Rich and Poor." harmonizes with UC Mission Study theme: "Jubilee: the redistribution of wealth." Intended to relate faith to issues of economic justice. For info. call (416) 259-4154 or www.faith-and-the-economy.org . Resource videos available ie. "Whose Economy is it anyway?" as well as books like, The Growing Gap, and Reinventing Government.

•In order to do something for World Outreach issues, focus on one issue within your congregation ie. suggest a one meal fast on Good Friday. Donate the value of the missed meal.

Church in Society

•don't confuse the Healing Fund with the litigation process being brought forth by native groups against church residential schools. The Healing Fund supports special projects by natives for natives.

Stewardship and Finance

•Technical Support Grants for computers, software and printers only. Applications to Dorothy Usher by April 5; must include audited financial statement.

UCW

•hosting 2 women from the garment trade in Nicaragua, April 26 to May 18.

Ministry, Personnel and Education

•vacancies have been declared at Leduc, Drayton Valley and Sturgeon Valley Pastoral Charge (Gibbons, Coronado).
