Our usual Friday evening through Sunday Lunch time Regional Meeting will be jam-packed with good info. Sara & Ed will be our national reps, and several others will be making presentations, as well as there being time to hear from all of you around the Region about programs and important concerns in your localities. KAIROS PRAIRIES NORTH FALL RETREAT & ANNUAL MEETING 2008 

An annual gathering of people interested in social justice. 

To be held at the FCJ Christian Life Centre 219 - 19th Ave. SW, Calgary. 

>From Friday October 3, 7:00 pm to Sunday October 5, Noon + lunch. 

Please note that this meeting will be preceded by KAIROS’ Tar Sands Forum, Friday Oct 3, 9:30am - 4pm (see below) 

All welcome to this open gathering, regardless of your background. 

Our focus will include: 

    A critical look at the tar sands, 

    The 2009 re-energise campaign, 

    The KAIROS Aboriginal study "In Peace and Friendship", 

    The impact of poverty on our communities, 

    Community building, strategizing and getting to know each other.

KAIROS Canada is preparing the background information for a group of denominational leaders of Canadian churches who will tour the Athabasca Tar Sands in the Spring of 2009. Sara Stratton, Campaigns Co-ordinator, & Ed Bianchi, Aboriginal Rights Program Co-ordinator, will be in Alberta just before our gathering, collecting information to be part of KAIROS' package for the Church Leaders' tour. They and some resource people of their choice will present a Forum on the Tar Sands all day long on our opening day, Oct. 3. The attached info contains a full page poster detailing the Forum (also copied in below). Its focus on ethical / theological / ecological aspects of Tar Sands exploitation is unique, and should be of special interest to Christians and our friends who share a concern for the effects of such developments on the human condition. Attendance and meals, etc. are a free gift to all present that day. However, if you come from afar & need to travel and have overnight accomodation, those costs will be your own. We expect some rooms to be available at the Christian Life Centre, & our registration form allows you to select the third night if that is your desire.
