Edmonton is joining millions of people in 70 countries (and counting) who will be on the streets to demand that world leaders take the urgent and resolute action that is needed to prevent the catastrophic de-stabilisation of our global climate.

SATURDAY, DEC. 8th join us on the streets for a climate funeral.

The procession will go from Canada Place to the Alberta legislature. There will be a coffin, a minister, songs, taps, and more.

Please wear black, bring your tears and push our government to give us a future.

Dec. 8th
11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Meet at Canada Place (south side entrance) march to the Alberta Legislature.

Organized by the CYCC, Greenpeace, STOP (Stop Tar Sands Operations Permanently) and the Sierra Club.

Contact Mike at mhudema at yto.greenpeace.org or 780 430 9202 for more information.

The event coincides with the meeting of heads of state in Bali, Indonesia for the UN Climate negotiations. On December 8 the people of Canada can stand in solidarity with millions world wide to demand our leaders take real action.

Climate Justice Vigils: These vigils are calling on Prime Minister Harper to pay down Canada's Carbon Debt to the rest of the world by ending its violation of its Kyoto responsibilities. The vigils also aim to remind Prime Minister Harper that industrialized countries like Canada bear most of the responsibility for causing climate change, and should therefore lead the way in reducing emissions. It's time for Canada to be a leader for the deep emissions cuts that are needed. It's time for Canada to stand up for Kyoto. It's time for Canada to rejoin the world. A Message From David Suzuki
      Written by David Suzuki
      Tuesday, 27 November 2007
On December 8, as representatives from countries around the world gather in Bali to begin the discussions about the fate of the Kyoto process, Canadians will gather to express their demand that Canada show leadership in meeting this crisis. Canada, as much as any nation, is vulnerable to the economic, social and ecological effects of climate change. We are a northern nation and Inuit have been telling us they can see tangible effects of warming, we have the longest marine coastline of any nation and are feeling the effects of sea level rise and we are still dependent on climate-dependent activities like agriculture, forestry, fisheries and tourism. It is in our own self interest to show leadership on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and that is what grassroots groups are demanding.
