Face to Face with Zambia

Edmonton Group

March -April 2007

Our purpose for this visit is twofold:

*	to return the hospitality we experienced in Zambia and to assist our
Zambian guests to learn from experiencing life in a different culture,
namely Canada
*	to facilitate people of the church in Alberta and Ontario to begin
to better understand the life and work of one of our partner churches.

Plan:

1. There will be four people in the Edmonton area - 2 ministers
- one ordained

- one a third year students

- 2 school teachers - one Racecourse

- one basic school

(Yet to decide: we need to think about which Racecourse teacher
will be here)

2. Dates in Edmonton are: March 2007 -

3. They will be billeted while in Edm and preferably stay with their billet
for the entire visit except when they are traveling outside the city.

4. It is our hope that each visit will include the following components

            [a] a learning opportunity for our Zambian guests;

[b] a learning opportunity for host group from our Zambian
guests;

[c] a mutual learning opportunity on topics of shared interest, as part of
[a] and [b]

5. It is our hope that there will be about one 'touristy' experience each
week such as a hockey game, a concert or a social event of some kind.

6. Our guests have already been asked to be prepared to

            A - lead worship and/or preach

B - to talk of Zambia's history and present situation

C - to talk about HIV/AIDS, other health concerns, the educational system,
the church, the economic situation, the political situation and social
reality of life in Zambia;

D - to talk about the church in Zambia [nine of our guests are members of
the United Church of Zambia] Three of our guests who are Racecourse School
teachers come from more fundamental churches.

E - talk about themselves and their life experience as a way of
understanding life in Zambia

7. The churches who have been a part of the fundraising for this trip are
the sponsoring congregations. In Edmonton they are - Knox Met, Garneau,
Trinity, Southminster Steinhuaer, Athabasca, St. Andrew's, Ebenezer, St.
Paul's, and Millwoods.

These congregations will be given the purpose for the visit, and will be
asked to indicate who they would like to invite to their church, (one of two
guests), and some idea for how they would plan the time of our guests.

8. Other churches/communities have also requested an opportunity for our
guests to visit with them. We will give due consideration to them. They are
Yellowknife, Onoway, Spruce Grove, Stoney Plain, etc.

9. As the program for our guests is developed it will be helpful to be aware
of three areas:

A As a total group we would like them to have an opportunity to experience
these areas together such as:

            [i] aboriginal life and communities

[ii] hospitals, schools, prison system, St. Stephen's College ,
Red Deer College, Mount Royal College

[iii] rural Alberta life and agriculture

[iv] inner city life and programs [social service programs]

B As individuals or as a group of two or three we would like opportunities
for small group exchange in churches or schools. Please note that quite
possibly the teachers may want more school experience and ministers may want
more time at St Stephen's College.

C We would like opportunities for our guests to make major
presentations including at church services, special evenings, or St.
Stephen's College classes. These could be in couples or individuals
depending on how confident our guests feel in these settings.

D Of course they will travel to Banff together near the end of
the tour for the day.
