What is Yellowhead Presbytery?
Yellowhead Presbytery is one of the nine
presbyteries in Alberta and Northwest
Conference of The United Church of Canada.
There are thirty-six pastoral charges or mission fields within
Yellowhead Presbytery, arranged in an oblong slice across the
province of Alberta, ranging from a little south of Edmonton, north
to Fort McMurray and across to the British Columbia border on the
West. The Yellowhead Highway travels through much of the
Presbytery.
The presbytery is made up of many diverse
communities, some of which have an agricultural base, others a
resource base, while others are bedroom communities for the city of
Edmonton.
Mission Statement
As stewards of the gifts of God and members of
The United Church of Canada, and in accordance with the guidelines
of the manual, Yellowhead Presbytery seeks to enable the well being
of the Christian Church and the furtherance of God's purpose in the
world:
- by supporting congregations in developing and
living out their mission;
- by supporting ministry personnel in their
ministries;
- by responding to individual and social needs
regionally, nationally and globally;
- and by linking pastoral charges with each other,
with Alberta and Northwest Conference, and the General
Council.
Meetings
Because of the vast geography of Yellowhead
Presbytery, meetings occur over a two-day period in October,
February and April. There is usually a meeting also associated with
the Annual Meeting of Alberta and Northwest Conference, near the
end of May.
In September, November, January, March and June,
the Presbytery Executive meets to carry out the necessary business
of the Presbytery.
